CONSULTING SERVICES
Pina Vineyard Management provides detailed evaluations for both current and potential vineyard properties. Evaluations begin with on-site inspections, including soil and water analysis. This is coupled with an investigation of the production, quality and grape prices on the property of interest and other vineyards in the area. We can then calculate hypothetical financial projections. These factors are combined with the owner’s goals to provide a detailed picture of the success of a vineyard project.
SOIL, WATER AND PETIOLE SERVICES
The quality of grapes produced at harvest depends on proper nutrient status in the vines. Sampling petioles each year gives an accurate view of the nutritional status and allows managers to adjust fertilization regimes to optimize yield and quality. In addition, periodic soil and water analysis provide a way to understand the physical and chemical factors affecting vine health. Based on the results of these analyses, We provides detailed recommendations and assists managers in monitoring the effects of cultural practices on grape quality. The availability of nutrients from the soil is dependent on a complex of soil pH, structure and a variety of chemical interactions. These factors are directly related to the addition of soil amendments and cultural practices. For this reason, in problem areas we usually recommend soil analysis every 3-5 years along with annual petiole sampling. For both soil and petiole analysis, the number of samples required varies with grape variety, soil type, typography, and microclimate. We generally suggests one sample for every 10-20 acres. However, the number of samples required will depend on the size and uniformity of the vineyard.
MANAGEMENT OVERSIGHT
One popular service from us is overseeing the management of vineyard properties. For absentee or farming owners, we make periodic vineyard reviews which range from simple site visits to complete audits of vineyard practices. We can also provide technical support for vineyard managers. We work with managers to keep them updated on the latest vineyard trends and practices. The degree of involvement depends on the manager’s expertise and the owner’s goals. With this service, owners are often able to hire a manager with less technical training but valuable hands-on experience and still be confident of maximizing the return on investment.
